GlenDronach Cask Strength Batch 8

“The GlenDronach Cask Strength Batch 8 is incredibly rich and full-bodied, the result of years of slow maturation in Pedro Ximénez puncheons, quarter casks and Oloroso sherry butts. Casks were individually selected, combined and bottled at natural cask strength to deliver maximum character and depth. Sip layers of sherry cask matured character unfolding slowly over time; from mocha, dark chocolate and caramel espresso to cherry cake layered with sultana and plum; the depth of character is boundless. The texture is like sipping velvet with a burst of sumptuous fruits, warm spices and intense dark chocolate which crescendos into The GlenDronach’s signature long and richly satisfying finish. As promised I'm coming back with the review for this cask strength sherried scotch from Glendronach.

.

It's 10 years old matured in Oloroso and PX casks. Bottled at 61%. Batch 8.

.

Here is my review:.

.

Nose: Earthy oak and vanilla pod, with sandalwood, mocha and golden syrup and pears, very fruity. Cocoa powder.

.

Palate: Dusty cocoa, dates and cherry jam, with a drizzle of caramel and praline. Thick, rich and spicy, very sweet (the sherry kicks in).

.

Finish: Fresh espresso, with gooey chocolate pudding and cigar box, salted caramel ice-cream.

.

If you are a sherry cask fan, this is for you!

It amazes me how this is at 61%ABV and it doesn't burn, at all. Excellent stuff!.

Andrei Muresan

My name is Andrei, Andrei-Paul Muresan. I’m an IT professional, born in the wonderful year of 1982, in the heart of Transylvania (for people who don’t know, the heart of Transylvania is a city called Cluj-Napoca, located in Eastern Europe, in Romania to be more exact). As you might expect, given my profession, I’m passionate about technology and everything that surrounds it, but I am also a great spirits fan, and when I say spirits I mean scotch, whisk(e)y and cognac, and I also enjoy a good cigar (I never say no to a good cigar). I like to mix all that with a good tune and also a good game, I own a couple of game consoles. I am, by no means, an expert in the scotch/whisk(e)y/cognac/cigar world, but I am keen on learning everything there is to know about it, so I’m launching an invitation to you, to join me in this virtual journey as we learn together.
