The Glenlivet 15yo – review
The exotic and special character of the 15 year Glenlivet expression is due to the selective aging process where part of the whisky is matured in French oak barrels. Glenlivet was among the first distilleries to use French oak in the process of making their whisky expressions. Limousin Oak comes from the Dordogne region of France, where it is often used for maturing the cognac. Its low density allows the drink to penetrate deep into the wood of the barrel, and the distillery masters carefully control the maturation period to avoid overloading the final taste.
Tasting notes:
Nose: Notes of dried fruit, butter, rose petals, green apple and cinnamon accents.
Palate: A rich bouquet, dominated by woody notes, almond flavour, apple cake and cinnamon. A drop of water opens red apple flavours.
Finish: Persistent, spicy.
Color: Amber.
For pairings, this one goes very well with dark chocolate or salted caramel chocolate.
You can also pair it with some hard cheese, like Roquefort blue cheese or the Fourme d’Ambert French 🇫🇷 cheese. You can of course pair it with a good cigar too 😉
