Hey guys. How’s it going? I’ve got a special mix for you today, well at least it’s special for me πŸ˜€ This is my favorite cocktail and it’s a strong one! The Long Island Iced Tea is a powerhouse of a mix, it contains vodka, tequila, rum and gin, that’s a lot of strength πŸ˜€ So let’s get into it!

Origin
As always, I would like to get a bit of background around this mix.
Robert “Rosebud” Butt is said to have invented this one back in 1972 while he worked at the Oak Beach Inn on Long Island, New York, hence the name Long Island. As with most cocktails, the this is not the full story, a slightly different drink is said to have been invented back in the 1920’s by an “Old Man Bishop” in a local community named Long Island in Kingsport, Tennessee. Be that as it may, the name still holds and it’s one of the most popular mix you can find, I bet you can walk into almost any bar and order one Long Island Iced tea, even if it’s not on the menu! πŸ˜‰

Diplomatico rum, Copper Head gin, Beluga vodka, Don Julio tequila, Triple Sec, Monin sugar syrup

Ingredients

Alright, so enough talk, let’s see how we can make one, right? Here’s what you need to make your own Long Island Iced Tea.
What you need for ingredients and tools:

  • 1 Jigger 25ml/50ml
  • 1 long drink glass
  • 1 bottle of vodka – I got the Beluga Noble Russian Vodka
  • 1 bottle of tequila – I got the Don Julio
  • 1 bottle of rum – I used the Diplomatico Reserva Exclusiva
  • 1 bottle of gin – I used the Copper Head
  • 1 bottle of Triple Sec
  • 1 bottle of sugar syrup – I used some Monin Pure Cane Sugar syrup
  • 1 Lime juice – (some people use lemon juice)
  • 1 can of Coke
  • Ice

How to mix it
OK, so now that we have all the ingredients, it’s time to mix it.
As you can see, this cocktail does have quite a lot of ingredients, but it’s relatively easy to mix.

The finished “product: the Long Island Iced Tea

So, to mix it you need:

  • about 22ml of vodka
  • about 22ml of tequila
  • about 22ml of rum
  • about 22ml of gin
  • about 22ml of triple sec
  • about 22ml of lime juice
  • about 22ml of sugar syrup

Fill a long drink cocktail glass with ice and add all the ingredients except the coke. Top with a splash of coke and stir briefly. Garnish with a lemon wedge.

And that’s it, you got yourself your own Long Island Iced Tea!

Andrei Muresan

My name is Andrei, Andrei-Paul Muresan. I’m an IT professional, born in the wonderful year of 1982, in the heart of Transylvania (for people who don’t know, the heart of Transylvania is a city called Cluj-Napoca, located in Eastern Europe, in Romania to be more exact). Here’s a photo of me, just to put a face to the name πŸ˜‰ I mentioned Transylvania because most people are more likely to know where Transylvania is and not where Romania is πŸ™‚ oh and by the way, vampires, they’re just ghost stories, sorry to disappoint everybody. As you might expect, given my profession, I’m passionate about technology and everything that surrounds it, but I am also a great spirits fan, and when I say spirits I mean scotch, whisk(e)y and cognac, and I also enjoy a good cigar (I never say no to a good cigar). I like to mix all that with a good tune and also a good game, I own a couple of game consoles. I am, by no means, an expert in the scotch/whisk(e)y/cognac/cigar world, but I am keen on learning everything there is to know about it, so I’m launching an invitation to you, to join me in this virtual journey as we learn together.
